Drawing on our engineers’ years of experience and countless revisions in each step of the manufacturing process, we are able to produce a strong and stiff XC rim while dramatically reducing the weight.

Construction: We used a special uni-directional pre-preg with a very low fiber areal weight. This is an exclusive process to our Flyweight rims. To further reduce the weight we used a blend of Toray T700 and T800 specific layups. We opted for a new subtle ultralight waterslide graphic in glossy black with a matte finish overtop in the spirit of keeping these as true cross country race oriented rims.

Nick : Hi Nancy, This week I finished building my bike. Here are a couple pics as you requested. I am very happy with your rims....they roll very light and fast. My local wheel builder was very impressed with your rims and mentioned that he has built many wheel sets with Light Bike rims, and in all cases people are very happy with the rims. Great work to you guys!! My bike came in at 18.8 lbs...decent weight for a 19" 650b bicycle. I am waiting for Rock Shox to make the SID WC XX 120mm fork in 650b size so we can loose even more weight. Yes, Ive ridden them a few times. The rims roll very well. Super light and fast. I am running tubeless. I seated the tires using inner tubes for one ride, then pulled the tubes and filled with Stan's no-tube sealant. There are no leaks at the rims and the tires are staying seated on the bead. We normally ride rough and fast terrain with lots of tree roots.

Hello. Cyclist's weight 65kg. Discipline - low-weight bikepacking. The total weight of the system does not exceed 90kg. Would you recommend the flyweight version for the front or also for the rear?

Hi Sir, Do you ride aggressively or gently? Standard version is more durable than flyweight version. If you do not mind weight, I would recommend standard version RM650BC09. It will cause you more to rebuild if the wheels break. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hello, I see the flyweight version has max weight 90kg. Would it be ok as front wheel for gravel riding/bikepacking with higher spoke count? The system weight with me would be around 90-95kg. I would like to offset dynamo weight with rim a bit. Thanks. Regards, Adam

Hi Adam, The flyweight rim 650B can use on the front with higher spoke count like 32H. 95kg would be ok. But we don't recommend using the flyweight version for the rear wheel. You need the rear wheel to be strong. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Hi, I'm thinking about building a pair of wheels with these rims in the next few months. They will be mounted on my, let's call it, dirty rando. It's my only road bike (be it tarmac or gravel roads), it's got a light steel frame and fork with disc brakes and I use it for daily training and commuting as for long or multiple day rides, on every kind of road, always carrying a front bag and rack (typically with a load not exceeding a pair of kilograms) and rolling on 42mm or bigger tires. Oh, and I weight about 55kg. This new wheelset will be used mainly on paved roads, but may hit some easy dirt ones every once in a while. The hubs I will be using for this wheelset are made in 24 or 28h only. So, the rear wheel will be 28 spokes, but I'm unsure about the front one: I usually prefer high spoke counts, but I also prefer to have more spokes on the rear than on the front, as I think that the same spoke count front and rear either means that the front is overbuilt or the rear is underbuilt, so having a little less spokes on the front makes for a more balanced wheelset. If it was possible, I would build them 32/28h, as these wheels will roll for many miles a year (hopefully for many years too) and despite my light weight and the prevalent paved use, they will likely take quite a beating. So, do you think that 24 spokes would be enough for this rim on the front wheel, considering my light weight but also the heavy use and the front load? Will they be enough to build a strong and stiff but still comfortable front wheel, that will be unlikely to have problems during a long night ride in the middle of nothing, or should I play it safe and go for a 28 spokes build on the front too? Thanks for your attention and sorry for the long question, and my terrible english (hope it was not so bad to be hard to understand...!)

Hi Alessandro, Glad you can describe your question in details. It really helps! I would recommend our RG722 (29mm wide, 36mm deep) gravel rims for you. You 42mm tires would work well on the rims. The deeper profile makes the wheelset stiffer. The rim was designed for gravel riding, so it would be strong enough for most road ridings. Since you are a light rider and don't really do much aggressive riding like jumps. I think 24H on the front would be strong enough. But you can also go with 28H to ensure the durability. You can get a 5% discount now for the Black Friday discount. You might notice that those two rims are with different rim profile. RG722 is with hooked design, while RM650BC09 is with the hookless design. The rim you were looking at is our MTB rim RM650BC09, it's with hookless design, which requires running under 80psi. It won't be a good choice if you are riding higher pressure during road rides. Thanks, Lightbicycle

Thanx for your kind and detailed answer. It's quite obvious now for me that 24 spokes up front will be enough on this wheelset, so I'm going for it. Thanks also for the suggestion about other rim options that might be good for me. However, I think I'll stick with the RM650BC09, as given the wide tires I use and my light weight, a pressure under 45psi is more than enough even for the smoothest tarmac. I would prefer an hooked profile to be honest, as I've had some tire pinching problems on my mtb on rocky descents with hookless rims mated with light supple tires (and rigid front and rear ends), but on tarmac or gravel roads there won't be many occasions to bottom-out the fat tires I use, so maybe I will be able to enjoy the pros of hookless rim design without its cons, finally. So it looks like there's no reason to take that 60 grams penalty. So once again thank you very much, sadly I won't be able to enjoy your black Friday discounts, but at least I know which rims I will be using and how to lace them.

Hello Alex, Thanks for your inquiry. The 28mm wide 46mm hookless wheelset built with DT 350 disc hubs and Pillar x-tra 1420 aero spokes is $745/pair. Or we have better spokes Sapim cx-ray, and the price is $44 added. The hookless version is designed with low pressure impact resistance in mind. Hello Adam, Thanks for your inquiry. The 27mm wide 650B rim cannot be drill in UST version. Because the rim is not deep enough for nipples to go through inside while building wheelset. But our rim is tubeless compatible. You can use a rim tape, sealant and tubeless tire. Then it will ride tubeless perfectly. If you still like full UST rim, then go with our RM650BC05. Your specs say the max tire pressure is 70 psi but you list 40psi as the recommended max cycling tire pressure. What's the difference? I don't understand. Will I be able to mount a 650b Schwalbe G-one 40mm tire to this rim? Thanks!

Hello Steve, Thanks for your inquiry. The recommended max tire pressure is 40psi. It means that it will be better to run the tire around or under 40psi. Some customers prefer high tire pressure like over 40psi, so that is a max tire pressure limit 70psi. It means that you cannot run the max tire pressure over 70psi. Otherwise, the type will be damaged or blow off easily. The recommended tire width for RM650BC09 is 1.9’’-2.3’’. It will be great if you go with wider tires. Thanks, Light-bicycle
