EH935S: The Strongest E-MTB Rim Around

The E-bike movement is booming, but carbon wheels tailored for E-bikes still remain hard to find. Here at Light Bicycle, this prompted us to create our first E-bike-specific carbon rim, the EH935S. Strong, lightweight and durable, the EH935S is the ultimate E-MTB rim for any trail condition imaginable.

Designed to Last

Modern E-bikes weigh between 20kg and 25kg. The addition of a battery and electric motors greatly increases the system weight, which means large loads, heavy torque, and more abuse on wheels overall. With that in mind, we carefully constructed the EH935S to create the strongest Light Bicycle rim yet.

Stays true, rolls faster and longer

We came up with a Dual-ERD design so that nipple holes are located at the peak and valley points of the wave-shaped rim. This innovation makes it possible to minimize the difference in the spoke bracing angles for balanced spoke tension between the drive and non-drive sides of the wheel. In addition, the slight reduction in the spoke length on the front disc and rear drive side ensures that the EH935S can handle the added torque generated by E-bikes.

Strong, yet lightweight. The best of both worlds.

Based on our proven S-Flow chassis, the EH935S is appropriately reinforced with a focus on reliability and durability. Our refined carbon layup schedule includes carefully tuned angles, reinforced spoke holes, and thickened sidewalls to offer exceptional protection against the additional wear and tear of modern E-bikes. Additionally, the special resin system we apply further improves the overall strength of the rim. The result is a sturdy construction that carries a maximum system weight (bike and rider) of 180kg (396lbs) and endures an impact energy level of 155 Joules (J), nearly 4x the level of the UCI standard (40J).

At Light Bicycle we strive to make lightweight products without sacrificing performance in real-world scenarios. With the EH935S, the S-Flow silhouette is an important part of its overall efficiency, allowing reinforcement of key areas while precious grams are shaved where they're not needed. Using this approach, we managed to produce our strongest rim as light as 500g, and the complete wheelset weighs in at a sub-1900g (on average), a relatively low weight compared to similar products on the market.

The perfect profile

The EH935S features a generous 35mm inner width for tire widths ranging from 2.5'' to 3.1'', allowing modern E-MTB and DH riders to run wide-track tires for excellent traction and stability.

In addition to being tested rigorously to ensure optimal performance under demanding E-MTB riding conditions, the addition of a Hybrid Hook design aims to improve tire fitment even further. When the Hybrid Hook integrates with the Smart Bead Lock design (a 4° pitch slope), riders can expect straightforward tire installation and secure tire seating, which greatly reduces the chances of tire burping or blowoff during on chunky terrain.

We are offering the EH935S with I9 Hydra Boost or I9 1/1 Boost hubs laced with Sapim Race Spokes.

The EH935S features 32 holes and a 3-cross lacing pattern for optimal strength. The wheels are precision handbuilt and trued, and stress-relieved 4-5 times. We also conduct a final and thorough product quality inspection before shipping, so your wheels are ready to ride out of the box.

Landing in our Recon Pro lineup, the EH935S comes with a 5-year manufacturing warranty and crash replacement guarantee, with an option to upgrade to a lifetime warranty.

Do you have any plans to offer the EH935S in a mullet wheelset configuration? 27.5 rear and 29 front? With the DT Swiss 350 eMTB hubs?
