What Are Berd Spokes and How Do They Work?
Berd spokes are crafted from a proprietary polymer- Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE)- which is 12 times stronger than steel and even floats on water. The result is an unprecedented combination of strength with staggering weight savings: at 2.5g apiece, Berd spokes save you 50% in spoke weight compared to a bladed steel Sapim spoke.
How Do Berd Spokes Feel?
The hero quality of Berd spokes is the increase in vertical compliance they offer without sacrificing lateral stiffness. Berd touts their vibration dampening as 200% better than steel spokes. This provides an incredibly comfortable ride, decreasing rider fatigue and trail chatter over any distance or terrain:
Who Are Berd Spokes for?
Calling all XC marathon racers and dedicated gravel riders! Riders who tackle long, technical distances, rough terrain and prioritize high performance or marginal gains may be most attracted to what Berd spokes offer. Berd spokes are compatible with both J-bend and tangential straight-pull hubs and almost every rim in our lineup. Pick your preferred rim model and hubs, and the experienced wheel builders at our North American warehouse will build your wheelset by hand with the superior quality that is the Light Bicycle standard.
If you currently have Light Bicycle wheels but are now Berd-curious, we also offer rebuilds to transition your wheels from steel to Berd spokes.
