UC25T: A Super-Light Collaboration

We're excited to unveil our latest ultra-light climbing rim, the UC25T. This innovative product is the result of a true collaborative effort with our customers! Join us in this blog as we share the journey of bringing this performance-oriented 180g rim to life.

The Beginning

The idea for the UC25T stemmed from the increasing demand for lightweight climbing gear. As the market of tubular style rims declined, we set out to develop a new product with exceptional strength-to-weight ratio to cater to the needs of climbing enthusiasts everywhere.

Customer-Led Development

At Light Bicycle, our product development philosophy is undergoing an exciting transformation. Traditionally, customer feedback has influenced our ideas, but now we're actively involved with customers in the development process!

Enter the Product Panel Members, individuals who support our new concepts with a one-time pledge of $1 or $50. Members are then able to provide input on the design as the concept evolves, and also get exclusive early access when development is complete.

We truly appreciate the support of all 32 (learn more about them) riders who actively participated in shaping the UC25T. Without you, this innovation would not have been possible!

A Sub-200g Ultra Climbing Model Realised

Our goal was crystal clear: to craft the world's lightest carbon climbing wheelset without compromising safety.

After meticulous research, we settled on a 180g weight target. Complying with UCI standards, we experimented with different Toray carbon prepregs and layup schedules, ultimately achieving a weight of 200g while surpassing the required impact resistance of 45J.

Material Innovation: T1100 High-Modulus Carbon

The key to our Flyweight 180g version lies in Toray T1100 high modulus carbon prepregs. Qualified to use T1100 carbon, we completely redesigned the layup plan with the use of a resin of a specially designed proportion, and other unique materials for different purposes (resilience, strength, interconnection, etc) to enhance stiffness, strength, and impact resistance.

We’re proud to report that the UC25T can now withstand a destructive impact energy of 70J.

Hi! How much for a pair of flyweight UC25C clinchers laced up to DT Swiss 180 CL disc hubs with CX-Rays?

LightBicycle 2024/02/08

Hi there, Do you have any plans to offer these rims in a rim brake version? Thanks, Matthew

LightBicycle 2024/02/03

Hi Mattew, Thanks for reaching out. I will feed your requirements back to our product development department. Perhaps the 700C UC25T will be available in rim brake in the future. For rims with rim brake version, they will be heavier. Thanks, Lightbicycle
